Setting the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles
At Brightside Dental, we provide gentle, comprehensive dental care for children tailored to every stage of their development. Our goal is to ensure positive early experiences, while supporting your child’s healthy growth of the face and teeth.
We recommend scheduling your child’s first dental visit by age one, or when their first tooth appears. Early dental care has been shown to reduce anxiety later in life and lowers the risk of dental problems developing unnoticed.

Why Start Early?
Builds comfort and familiarity with dental visits
Allows early detection of issues like crowding, underbites or overbites
Supports better oral hygiene and dietary habits from a young age
Preventive Treatments for Children

Fluoride Applications
Fluoride is a safe, effective treatment applied during check-ups to strengthen enamel, repair early signs of decay, and protect your child’s teeth long-term.
Fissure Sealants
Sealants are thin, tooth-coloured coatings applied to the deep grooves of back teeth to help prevent cavities by sealing out food and bacteria.
Sealants are usually applied from age six, once permanent molars come in, through a painless procedure that doesn’t require anaesthetic — and in cases of early decay, a sealant restoration can remove the damage and protect the tooth from further breakdown.
Not all teeth require sealing. Sealants are recommended when:
- Grooves and fissures are deep or stain-prone.
- A child has experienced decay in other molars.
- Baby teeth have been significantly affected by cavities.
What to Expect During a Sealant Procedure
We will review sealants at routine check-ups to ensure they remain intact. While sealants protect the chewing surfaces, brushing with fluoride toothpaste and avoiding sugary snacks are still essential for full protection.
The tooth is cleaned and dried.
A conditioning gel is applied to prepare the surface.
The sealant is painted on and hardened with a special light.
The dentist ensures a proper seal and comfortable bite.
Painless Dental Injections for Children
We understand that the idea of needles can cause anxiety for children — and parents too. That is why at Brightside Dental, we use the E‑FLOW Dental Anesthesia Delivery System to provide a comfortable, stress-free injection experience.

E‑FLOW Dental Anesthesia Delivery System
How it works:
- Delivers anesthetic at a controlled rate, reducing pressure and pain
- Pen-like design is less intimidating for children
- Provides precise anesthesia, often just one tooth is numbed — not the whole mouth.
Additional comfort techniques we use:
- Topical anesthetic gel: Applied before injection to numb the surface of the gum
- Distraction and communication: Talking, cheek wiggling, or playful techniques during the procedure
- Minimal anesthesia zones: We numb only where necessary — keeping your child comfortable during and after
Benefits for children:
- Less anxiety with no scary syringe
- Minimal pain during injection
- Stress-free dental visits that encourage a positive relationship with oral care
